How to Build Quality
into Manufacturing

Special Products & Mfg., Inc., we are constantly growing and innovating our processes, especially where quality is concerned. We have an excellent, cross-trained quality team who ensures that we maintain a high standard of quality for our customers. Below, we’ve outlined the key ways that SPM builds quality into all of our processes and initiatives to continue our tradition of quality.

How We Build-In Quality:

1 – Prevention

  • State-of-the-art machines and automation deliver precise results
  • We maintain In-Process inspection methods and self-imposed AQL inspection frequencies
  • Our ERP-automated workflows are designed with embedded approval gates, which mitigates risks and reduces mistakes
  • Lean manufacturing practices are used to eliminate constraints and improve process flow

2 – Recognition

  • Our experienced Quality team is highly-trained to recognize part discrepancies
  • Custom-manufactured fixtures are used to validate the form fit and function of parts
  • Discrepant Item Reports (DIRs) are logged into the ERP system and tracked

3 – Analysis

  • Our ERP system tracks real-time data that can be analyzed for contextual insights
  • DIR analysis helps the Quality team investigate problems and uncover root causes
  • Weekly data reviews generate corrective actions
  • Our Cost of Quality program analyzes KPIs

4 – Improvement

  • Regularly-scheduled audits ensure that our processes are being followed in compliance with ISO 9001:2015
  • Continuous Improvement (CI) ideas are encouraged and implemented to further drive quality
  • We maintain a strong focus on recognizing Opportunities for Improvement (OPIs)
